Grants, Fundraising & Community Updates

It has been a great few months across our centres as we have been successful with some wonderful grant opportunities that are funding new and exciting programs and projects.

The Buderim Foundation awarded us the funds to purchase and Extractor and other equipment for harvesting honey from the bees at Compass Farm. Making our honey empire buzz!

The team at Palmwoods Heritage Bank have again provided the platform and funds for us to create a new multi-media program at the Farm. The funds have been used to purchase some new photography and editing equipment that has seen the trainees begin to dabble in design and production. Watch this space to see what they create over coming months.

And lastly a big thank you to Moreton Bay Council for supporting us to purchase a Stainless-Steel bench at Caboolture River Road. This bench has allowed us to emulate a real life kitchen environment and create a training space that is inclusive for all our trainees and can accommodate more trainees across our food preparation and skills programming.

Now over to the event side of life. On Friday October 13th, The Compass Institute held its annual golf day at Twin Waters Golf Club. Proudly presented by Cricks Sunshine Coast for the 10th year, we welcomed 108 local business and community leaders to tee off and change lives.

The golfers were treated to a fantastic day with perfect weather followed by a sportsmen lunch discussing the “Power of Opportunities.” The lunch was hosted by Hot 91.1 FM’s Nugget and featured our own Compass Trainee Jack Craig-Daly sharing his story of winning silver at the recent Special Olympics World Games and J ’Maine Hopgood from Parramatta Eels sharing his story from Hervey Bay to first grade in the NRL.

Overall, the day was a tremendous success raising over $46,000!

This day is only achievable thanks to our community of sponsors and players who join us every year. Our sincerest thanks go to Craig and Chantelle at Be Branded, Shelley, Robert and the family from The Mattress Company, Kris and the team at Entag, Ryan and the team at Kawana Floors, Nigel, Kylie and the team at AIB, Brendon and Peta from Grenfell Murray, Greg and Abbey at Impact Floors, Audrey, Sophia and the whole team from Palmwoods Heritage Community Bank. Further thanks to our prize sponsors White’s IGA, Paradise Rum, The Lakehouse Folk, Habitance Architects, Sunshine Boxes, SC Coffee Roasters, North Coast Plumbing, The Dolphins, The Wallabies, The Roosters and Eels, Hot 91, WIN News, Sunshine Coast News, Sunshine Valley Gazette and Twin Waters Golf Club.

It takes a village to raise a child and a community to change a life!
