The Magic of the Compass Farm Experience…touching hearts and changing lives

The Compass Farm is a 20 acre property nestled in the hills of Hunchy. Established in 2011, the Farm is a place where people with disabilities can learn, gain diverse work experience and enjoy a genuine vocational opportunities. As a social enterprise the Farm aims first and foremost to provide a safe, rich and meaningful experience for the young people who attend there. Our visitors always comment on just what a magical place the Farm is… peaceful & calm; beautiful… yet energetic. At the same time it is also a real working farm where everyone plays their role in being environmentally and economically sustainable.

When you visit Compass Farm you will be greeted and assisted by people with a disability… this is their place and they will be very glad to see you. The Farm provides a wide range of organic vegetables and fruit, live chicks, farm fresh eggs, honey and much more. There are also sheep, ponies, goats and farm dogs that provide an animal therapy component..

Compass Farm is the base for Harvest Kitchen, Green Thumbs Nursery and Rakes & Panes… all micro businesses providing real world experience to people with disabilities. It is also home to Farm Art – a creative hub offering a multitude of artistic and inspiring pathways including painting, sculpture, mosaics, photography, woodworking and much more…

For the young people it is a dream come true – a chance to realise their goal of playing a valued role on a Farm… and if this is your dream too then Compass is the place for you.

“On a farm just outside Palmwoods sits an example of excellence that provides a genuine model for broader regional development” – Bill Hoffman, Sunshine Coast Daily 2014

Compass Farm is a model

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council Corporate Plan identifies five main priority areas to address the development of the local economic and business environment:

  1. A broad economic base
  2. Support for local businesses
  3. Infrastructure for economic growth
  4. A sustainable tourism industry
  5. A strong rural sector

The retention of productive capacity is vital to the future sustainability of our region as well as contributing to the lifestyle and appearance of the region. The Compass Farm project provides very substantial benefits in all five areas identified above. Its’ very model is a synergy of social responsibility and sound business practice. The Farm reflects diversity and harmony within interrelated sectors including education and training, sustainable rural development, tourism, retail and hospitality.
